As another year comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year without the flu! We hope you had an amazing holiday with your family.
This time of year is considered flu season. The flu virus is most common during the fall and winter months and peaks between December and February and can last as late as May. We wanted to share a few suggestions to keep you and your employees healthy throughout the winter.
The CDC reports that the flu vaccine may only be 10% effective this year as opposed to the usual 40-60%. Avoid close contact with sick people and wash your hands often with soap and water. Keep in mind all the things your hands touch – food, money, door handles in public bathrooms, and shaking hands with clients.
Flu Prevention Tips
Wash your hands before eating.
Wipe down your mobile and landline phones.
Don’t use your phone when visiting the restroom. When you flush a toilet, water and stool can spread several feet. Think of all those dirty germs! Any pathogens or E.coli on your hands will transfer to your hands and phone.
After washing your hands in a public restroom, grab a paper towel to shut off the water and open the door. Several restaurants keep towels and a waste paper basket close to the door so you don’t have to touch the door with your clean hands.
If you share a work station with someone, wipe the keyboard, mouse, phone receiver and any other shared items.
Avoid touching your face, especially your nose, mouth and eyes if your hands are not clean.
To help keep others from getting sick, stay home. Otherwise, cough into your upper arm, cover your nose when you sneeze and put used tissues into the trash immediately.
Some common flu symptoms are fever, chills, runny or stuffy nose, cough, sore throat, body aches, nausea or even vomiting.
